New Bern, North Carolina

Recognized for its "sense of place and walk-ability", visitors receive a warm welcome to historic New Bern and it's beautifully restored downtown and waterfront.
Due to an aggressive revitalization effort led by Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation, a private nonprofit in partnership with city and county government, the heart of this award winning city is a major attraction and destination.
Planned overall growth and many special events attract thousands of visitors throughout the year. Downtown offers shops, art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, historic attractions and museums, a range of cultural activities, waterfront hotels and marinas, B&B accommodations, public parks, historic homes and churches and a waterfront convention center.
Founded in 1710 by the Swiss, New Bern is located at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse Rivers in eastern North Carolina. Rich in history, it is the home of Tryon Palace, the Colonial Capitol and first State Capitol of North Carolina and served as a pivotal port city during the Civil War. In 1896, the Council of Burgess of Bern presented the armorial bearings and the colors of Bern, Switzerland, to the City symbolizing the strong bond of friendship.
New Bern has, for many good reasons, won national acclaim for all it has to offer visitors, residents and retirees.
