MUMfest '08 Attractions
Featuring an amazing array of attractions including the Coca Cola Family Festival, amusement rides, games and boat rides.
Watch firefighters in action! New Bern firemen demonstrate how to turn down the heat with interactive displays of fire-fighting apparatus, extrication equipment, an 18 ft Zodiac fire boat and decontamination equipment that will be at the New Bern Fire Department area on Craven Street. The Fire Safety Troupe of Chia, Hoser, Smutt, Resque and Soot will fight fire with laughter, educating while they're clowning around. Stop by and have your picture taken with them!
K-9 Crime-stoppers. New Bern police officers who trust their lives to the most talented of canines, the German Shepherd K-9's, will demonstrate the dogs' abilities in the Police Department exhibit at the 300 block of Craven Street just off Broad Street. Demonstrations will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Sunday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The exhibit will also feature crime prevention, criminal identification and narcotics awareness displays along with weapons police use. Kids can explore police motorcycles and cruisers.
Check out the Thomas the Train model layout in the Carolina Coastal Railroaders space at the Sudan Temple. Thomas is a sweet, but cheeky, little blue wooden model train with lots of friends and accessories that make him lovable. On a grander scale, the double track HO scale model railroad in the first floor exhibit area is a marvel of detail and technical know-how. It's a must-see for railroading enthusiasts and there's plenty of room to hang around.
Run for Fun - 5K and Fun Run/Walk . MUM FEST 5K run and 1 mile fun walk isSunday, Oct 12. Race begins at 7:30 a.m., fun walk at 7:35 a.m. Entry fee $15.00 if postmarked Sept. 30 or before. Thereafter and up to the day of the race, entry fee is $20.00. Race starts and ends at Union Point Park.

Labrador Retriever Field Demo - Celebrating 31 years of professional dog training, John Weller will present again this year, labrador retriever field demonstrations on both Saturday and Sunday.
Pictured is Weller's Judgement Day Master National hunting retreiver who has been to MUM FEST for the past seven years. "Judge" is the oldest dog in the US to qualify at the AKC Master National Event in VA this past Sept. and will qualify for this year's national competition in Minnisota at the age of 12+ yrs old. Judge was ESPN's great outdoor finalist in Lake Placid in 2002 and has been seen on ABC and ESPN. Don't miss it!
Pumpkin Patch - Your MUM FEST experience is not complete without a visit to the Christ Church Pumpkin Patch. The churchyard will be transformed into a fall wonderland of pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and beautiful mums for all your fall decorating needs. If you're hungry, try some of our delicious pumpkin bread, muffins and homemade candy. While you shop, let your kids enjoy the playground, bean bag toss game, and bubble machine. There will be free pumpkin patch stickers for all! Corner of Pollock and Middle Streets.
Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens burst forth with more than 2,000 chrysanthemum blooms in a glowing pallette of color. The gardens will be open to the public free of charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Friday October 12 to Sunday, October 14. Interior tours of the Palace and its related historic buildings will be offered at the regular prices (adults $15; students $6, grades 1-12).
